The Waiting Game

beep beep beeeeeeeeep..."We interrupt this blogcation for a service announcement":

"You need to pay your fees for this program to keep running."

Oh wait. NO, you don't. There are no fees. This is all free. Isn't that the best part of blogging? I mean, imagine if the price was going up like the movies, we'd all have to quit.

Anyway.

Poor Becky of On top of the world(or at least really far north). She is so full of wit and insight and yet her guest post refuses to post here on the EO. Or blogger refuses to post it. Error messages are not my friend. So while Becky and I work on making her post postable, I will update you on the EO family, how 'bout that?

Asher has not had surgery yet. I was under the impression originally that things would move quickly, but...not so much. He has his MRI on Friday. (We were told it would be Tuesday, but there were no openings). He has to be knocked out for it IV style and I'm a bit stressed about that. Because he'll be really hungry and thirsty in the first place and then they'll poke him and I'm assuming that will be really annoying. I've yet to figure out how I'm going to explain to a sixteen month old WHY we're refusing to feed him or give him water. But maybe I'll miraculously come up with something. Like, "NO, Asher you may not have breakfast. And NO, you may not have water. You ate too much and drank too much yesterday. You've met your quota for the week." Something like that.

Can you tell I'm a bit stressed by this?

It will be fine. It will fine. Smooth as butter.

Okay, so after the MRI we meet with the neurosurgeon the following Thursday for him to go over it with us and give us his opinion on exactly where the spinal fluid is meeting a problem area. Then after that the surgery will be scheduled.

Meanwhile...

His head is heavy so he does this a lot. Usually he puts both hands and feet on the floor and crawls forward in this position. But that can be a problem because he can't see where he's going. Poor little guy. I would like to hurry up and get that fluid out so he can feel better. But scheduling these baby surgeries can be a bit tricky.

His big brother Miles is trying to help,
letting Asher rest his head on his chest frequently:

It's one of my favorite things I've ever seen.

You can read more about how great I think these two boys are over on the Bloggers Annex today. Being their mom is a beautiful thing.

Okay, back to my regularly scheduled blogcation! (I really am getting a lot done.) I may have to return again this weekend to get my Scribbit contest post in on time. But for the rest of the week and the next, come back for more really great posts from guest bloggers. They're doing a really great job, and I'm so thankful.

Peace out.

What a pleasant surprise!! It feels almost like you made an expensive long distance call from your vacation place just to have a chat!

Thanks for the update. And the pictures. As you say, heartbreaking. That brother shot is very sweet and makes me a little misty eyed.

And don't get too much done! Rest and have fun, too!

Hugs and prayers from me to you... and enjoy that coffee. As to the MRI, I've had a brain MRI before. It's noisy (VERY noisy) and you HAVE to lay still. So - while the IV and no-food-or-water-for-a-day would totally freak me out, too - I understand why they are doing it. The IV will make sure he doesn't feel at all scared during the test. Keep reminding yourself of that.

Oh my, I got a little teary eyed looking at both pictures. Those docs need to get that baby in surgery pronto!!

I'll keep praying and it was nice to hear from you. I've found new friends already because of your guest blogger!

Keep us updated. :o)

His picture is so sad, but in a cute way. I am so happy that you know what's up and are getting it taken care of. Hopefully they'll move a bit faster...the medical people can be frustrating that way!

Oh, Heather, just know that I am thinking of you.

I had hoped things would move along faster for you guys. The waiting is pretty dang stressful. My son had surgery at 6 months and it is harder on the Mom than it is on the kid.

I will say that Asher has such a cute giant noggin though! I hope things will move along as needed. Sorry for the stress you're going through.

How frustrating to have to wait! If you're anything like me (which you seem to be), that just means more time to worry. Praying that the next few weeks will go quickly and that the MRI goes well on Friday.
Thanks for the update :)

That hugging picture is the sweetest thing ever. My eyes got all teary.
It's even sweeter than when Meici was saying her prayers the other night, and I whispered to her to bless Asher and she did. That was sweet too, but those two little boys you've got are just pure sugar.

I love that picture of the boys hugging too. Thanks for keeping us updated!

Guest posting is such a great example of how bloggers support each other!

Oh the stress of it all! Hope things move as quickly as it's safe for them to move!

So good to hear from you! Hopefully Friday won't be too stressful for you - do you know when the scan is going to be? Can you try and get Asher to nap for a while before going to the hospital? He'll be hungry when he wakes up - but you can make that the hospital's problem! Also, when I worked as a radiotherapist/phlebotomist we used to give mums some anasthetic cream to rub in anywhere we needed to take blood or put lines in, and the play specialists would play with and distract the children, so they really didn't feel anything - even the little ones! I'm sure it will be okay for Asher, it's harder for you as parents - but you seem to be coping with everything brilliantly! Sending you all supportive vibes from chilly Oxfordshire!

agree with all your fave music - except - what the heck is Halloween Alaska??? suggesting you check out Derek Webb too - think you will dig him.

i am on my anniversary date - only my date is asleep --- so, yeah ... that is not all that hot and steamy. :)
