They say you're never really ready for this kind of adjustment.
I know I never thought I'd want this. And then I found myself thinking those crazy thoughts, feeling so...ready. Strange, but true.
I guess I just wanted more to love.
But I didn't want to be a cliche. I kind of like to fight the suburban cookie cutter existence, and it seems more and more families are heading this direction. I didn't want to follow the crowd simply to follow the crowd. I wanted to be sure this was right for us.
They say that the big decisions in life always come at a price, if you're going to bring something good to your life.
I just never thought we'd want more than two.
But today. I'm really happy that we took the leap...

The actual news is that after a county auction, we find ourselves the proud new owners of a vehicle with three rows of seats!
Not just two, but three!
So much room! So much possibility! And SUCH a great deal.
He got such a steal, I have to say that Ryan rocks.
And so does my cookie cutter life...
Don't tell anyone about this though. I swore I'd NEVER drive a minivan.
It turns out it's not that uncool.
It turns out it's not that uncool.

Shame on you -- you had me hook line and sinker. LOVE the new car. Enjoy
Oh my stars. I fought B kicking and screaming over our mini-van... just didn't want to be labeled soccer mom. :) He found ours for a steal, too. And (SIGH) I am resigned to it... Congrats on the new wheels.
Welcome to the dark side.
Bwhahahahahaha!
Ya little trickster.....
Love the new ride, lady.
For a moment I thought you had gotten a dog. Weird, eh? I can't drive a minivan to save my life. Something about how they handle - so we have one of those crossover SUV sort o'things. But Neil got himself a minivan. He could've had anything but he WANTED one. Nut.
I remember when we got our first van-it felt like a hotel room! I swear, I felt like I could live in the thing! Yay for you!
You are TOO funny my friend! And you weren't kidding when you said you wanted my van!! Smart getting one with double sliding doors... that's one thing I'd change about ours!
Enjoy all the extra space before you decide you need to fill it with another baby ;)
I was horrified when we bought our van...but now, I couldn't imagine life without it!!!
You will LOVE it!
My husband is so anti-minivan, that he won't even park next to one. He gets if from his dad.
But his mom has a really nice one. I would totally get one.
Keep telling yourself that. Yep. If you say it often enough, you just might believe it. (It's not uncool to own a minivan. It's not uncool to own a minivan. It's not... crud, I give up.)
I love it..I was driving a mini van in my early 20's all through my kids elementary school days.. and when they got bigger and I got into my late 30's Ron my sweet hubby bought me the mid life crisis car of my dreams .. as sweet little white camaro.. enjoy your mini van... who knows when you are a granny like me.. you could be driving the sports car..
Take Care
Tammy
You go, lady. I'd much rather have a minivan than an SUV. Soooooo much easier and more comfy.
Sucker! But I know where you're coming from. I am proud to say that my dream car is a brand new Honda Odyssey! Love your new family member. Enjoy!
Haha. You totally had me there for a second!
Ha! You sucumbed to the suburban Mom look (and yes, I did think you were about to make a different kind of announcement).
I always say the scary thing isn't that I DRIVE a mini-van. It's that I actually LIKE it.
Now, your van has that too-new look that doesn't scream "MOM!" Go to You Tube and search for the "Mom My Ride" video. It's hilarious and it will help you know what to do to REALLY be a Mini-van Mom.
This is exactly why we have a hideous truck now. Because my husband just can't go there with the minivan!
If you ask me, this IS the new cool car...all of my friends have one, and so now I'm feeling left out!
I love the cookie cutter life! Two years ago we downsized from a minivan. It was great while it lasted and now it is great to be on to something new! Congrats!
Congratulations on the three seater!
Oh honey. Now you have no choice but to have another baby (or TWO!) Because you just do not have enough children to fill up a minivan. And you don't want to be un-green, now, do you? ;-)
Ok, I KNEW you were up to something, but I thought for sure you'd be surprising us with a picture of a puppy. But a minivan?!! Not nearly as cute as a yellow lab, but I'm guessing it will be a lot more practical. And you won't have to worry about it ruining your carpets, since it will be an OUTSIDE van.
Have fun cruising with your big bad captain's chairs!! (I'm tempted to buy one myself, just so I can own a captain's chair in some form....)
Ha! How funny. I love the color!
Ha! We just bought a mininvan like a week ago...I love it! But we bought one because we are going to try for baby#3, so we needed the room. Welcome to the club!
I gotta tell you - at first I was mad as a hornet. I thought, "You mean she's telling everybody at the same time! She didn't tell me first?" Thank goodness it was just a van. I am a jealous woman:)
The auction idea was great. I've never thought of that. Maybe we need to look into that for a car for the kids. And you'll love the van. I've been uncool and driving one forever. You can throw everything you own in one of those babies:)
Oh yeah. I think that we ALL vowed never to drive one of those. But, I love mine. Congrats!
revenge will be mine! you totally had me going...
i have successfully avoided the minivan, only to realize, too late, that they aren't uncool at all. if i had only taken down my defenses and shallowness sooner, i might have enjoyed the benefits. we do rent them every time we are out of town.
i drive a suburban because i like to pretend i am in the secret service. same benefits as the minivan, yet 1/4th the gas mileage. you don't even want to know what i shell out for gas.
congrats! and be careful... you never know when i might strike.
You had me going! Congratulations on joining the ranks of moms driving mini-vans! I love mine!
I LOVE my minivan. When we only had 3 kids, no one had to sit by each other! I also love sitting up higher on the road and being able to see ahead of me!
They are so big you can pack up the boys, toys, snacks, then go anywhere Heather, park, and you will still feel like you are at home! Genius!
You know me--I believe practicality is the secret of happiness! Don't tell Oprah, I'm not looking for an invite.
Well done!
You TOTALLY had me going. But a van is exciting in its own way. :)
For the record - you didn't have ME going at all. :) I Knew it was not the announcement we all SEEM to be waiting for. You see, you've done this to us before in little ways - trying to get us to think... and then... :) When you DO make the announcement it will not be like this. 'Casue I'm starting to "get" you. :)
Any way - I have been aware of the mini van cliche - and stigma, but never understood it. Mini vans are like the best things ever. Why must we treat them like an old pair of stinky shoes?
When we got ours I was simply over joyed! You can't put a price on that extra room!!
Congratulations my friend! :)
I too said that I would NEVER drive a mini van well guess what I drive one and I would not have it any other way.
(mainly b/c I could not leave the house if I didn't have a mini van.)
Minivans are admittedly really, really comfy and convenient and lots of other things. But you must share...how...HOW...did you get over your "I'm going to be driving a minivan" mindset? I've tried to see myself in one since we've got three kids in the house, all boys, all needing room as they get bigger....but I can't bring myself to it.
I accidentally scrolled down before I read it so I spoiled my own surprise. But CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so happy for you!
Okay, I am LAUGHING out loud! Good one, you goober! Now you definitely have the room for more, right?!!! Smiles, friend.
(I'm still cracking up.)
A minivan, huh? That's gotta be cheaper than another kid in the long run, right?
Congrats!
As my hubby keeps telling me, resistance is futile!
You totally had me going!
Minivans ARE cool! You are going to love it!
You suck. heehee!!!
I love my minivan, it ROCKS my socks! Welcome to the uncool world of cookie cutter momhood ;)
Ha Ha Ha.
You punk.
Congratulations on the new ride!
It makes no logical sense really, but I am head over heels for our 2003 plain jane minivan. I love that thing.
And dang it, I still feel cool! I'm also a tad deluded...but still...
I just can't do it.
I have to stick with my SUV...
But congratulations anyway! The mom's I know that drive them do like them.
OMG!!!! I was already in tears reading and about to comment on your first post, and I saw in my reader the second, and had to read this one first. OMG STILL IN TEARS, DAMMIT! lol
I was about to JUMP OUT OF MY SEAT so excited for you!!!!!
LOL, too funny! You had me going for a bit there.
I swore I wouldn't own a minivan under the age of 30...we got one at 28 while I was pregnant. Almost made it. Almost.
But I LOVE our minivan. I don't feel uncool in it at all. Except for those times when I'm driving on my own, backing out of my parking spot at WalMart and blasting the bass on a Lady GaGa son. Then I feel like a loser. Oh, and when I'm blasting the bass and I drive by a group of teenagers that are looking at me. But then they're waiting for a bus in the rain so then I feel better.
It'll be ok.
I never thought I'd be a minivan mom either. When my husband brought it home I was so depressed. We had it for two or three years and it grew on me. When it was time to give it up, I was a little sad. All that room was gone. Sigh . . .
You are so funny, I absolutely thought you were pregnant!! Well, now there's more room for baby #3!??
Hey! Looks like my ride. Drive it with pride!
