7 Quick Takes

Friday~June 5, 2009

1. I've been thinking about politics a lot lately, or how people handle their opinions about politics anyway. It's not that this is entirely new, but I guess I've been a bit more focused on it than usual. I've even been tempted to do a post about what I'm thinking, which I never ever thought I would do. Lately there's so much bumping around my head and heart on this topic, but...I don't know.

2. Ryan and I are leaving, heading off to our dear friend Shannon's wedding in Wisconsin tomorrow through Sunday. We are not bringing the small people. They'll stay at home with Nanny and Bapa, and then Uncle K and his girl, D will take over. Yesterday, I said something to Uncle K about getting up at around 6 a.m. with Asher, and he just stared at me with a bit of a glazed over shocked kind of look. So I burst out laughing, of course. Yes, Uncle K, kids really do get up early and in the middle of the night. Good luck!

3. This has been the busiest week. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels/treading water/a chicken with my head cut off and crazy all at once. You should see my house. Seriously. Wait...I'll just show you. (I'm so brave.)

I realize these photos are very dark, but that's how I pretend I'm showing you how awfully dirty my house is, when I'm really just SORT OF showing you.

4. Earlier this week, I told Miles it was time for bed. We started walking to his room when he said, "My butt is totally kicked." So I said the only thing I could say. "Mine too."

5. Some of you may remember when I told you to head over to the Bloggers Annex, and then I said I would feature you here on the EO if you submitted your favorite posts to be featured there (or subscribed) (which you should still totally do). I just wanted to tell you I haven't forgotten about that promise. I'm just crazy, so I'm slow. I'll start featuring you very soon.

6. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our trip last weekend:

7. This one time, I was driving my sister's car in downtown Minneapolis. I ran a red light. Not on purpose, I was just confused about the whole one-way-right-on-red thing, and went when I wasn't supposed to. Then my sister got a ticket in the mail because there was a video camera that busted me. So I had to go in and straighten things out, saying I was driving her vehicle and then I paid for the ticket. It was over a hundred dollars. YOW. This was maybe two or three years ago. Anyway, the state of Minnesota decided these video cameras at lights were unconstitutional or something, so yesterday I got a check in the mail for over 100 dollars. It was like free money! Even though I just broke even, I still want to go spend it on something fun. Isn't this story riveting?

The End.

For the record, when I was an intern at KARE11 and driving a station vehicle with the big logo on the side, I often drove the wrong-way on a one-way in downtown Minneapolis for BLOCKS before I could figure out how to rectify my error.

I also frequently managed to end up in the bus-only lanes.

I am SO LUCKY they didn't have cameras back then.

WOO HOO for money in the mail!

My butt is totally kicked...I'm so gonna steal that from Miles. Thank him for me ;)

Have a fun, RELAXING trip my friend!

hmmm... well, did they give you any interest on that 100 or compensation since it was against your constitutional rights? ha! ;) have fun with it!!

"My butt is totally kicked" fits so many situations . . .

i am entranced by the photos of your messy house. i don't feel so alone anymore.

do you have TWO laundry hampers on the floor of the bedroom??

I wish my house looked as good as yours. And I wish I was joking.

Have a good trip!

Can I say DITTO on your number 1, right down to almost writing a post about it? Totally. Even though I think you and I sit on opposite sides of the fence, I think we're sort of the type that wave at each other across the way instead of throwing rocks and scowling (and not just 'cause we're already friends).

I hope you have a GREAT kid-free weekend! And I Love number 4. :) And I think it's totally weird that you got back your ticket money, but I wouldn't be upset about it if I were you, either. :)

I found $5 in my pocket last night. I realize I must have put it there in the first place but it still seemed like a good excuse to by myself that sandwich I'd been wanting.

Did you secretly take pictures of my house and pass them off as yours on your blog? No? Oh, ok then.

Laughing. I think I can relate to almost every point here. Like you, I think a lot about politics (my B works in politics), but I never have the nerve to write what I'm thinking about. I think people have such strong opinions when it comes to politics and it's a scary realm for me to enter.

That's awesome about the ticket. I love it when things like that happen. I call them God smiles. Perhaps a nice date with Ryan is in order?

And me? Well, you tell Miles my butt is kicked, too. :) I love that boy's mind!

Miles is the center of all wisdom. My butt is totally kicked too!

That's awesome about the refunded money. I'd spend on you too!

It is totally free money. It is only breaking even if it just happened like within 6 months. Totally free. Go have fun with it!

Enjoy your kidless weekend. I'm a wee bit jealous.

Um, can I just tell you that your house is a thousand times cleaner than mine? So, you should feel good about that ;)

Checks in the mail? Gotta love that, enjoy something frivolous.

Love the check in the mail! Fritter away!

My butt's totally kicked too.

Don't do the politics thing. Run. People can be very, very nasty about politics. Not me, of course. I love you.

I have the same response to free money...Spend!

And the photos are adorable. Makes me want to squish them...or maybe paint them!

Have a wonderful time away! I'm so excited for you to have a bit of a break. Hahaha...Uncle K....hahahaha!

Love you!

That is great about the check in the mail - I would DEFINITELY go spend it! :)

You've been busy! Enjoy the getaway with the hubs. Sounds like a much-deserved break.

Kazzy said...

Congrats! And I love the real photos of your house. Once I read a blog where the writer took current, non-rigged photos of her house from right then and there. It was cool!

Get out! They actually sent you money back? What is that - an honest government? They are going to be in big trouble when the rest of the country finds out about that.
Have a great trip. We need to catch up when you get back.

What part of Wisconsin will you be in? :)

I adore your honest pick me ups Heather.

Blessings,

What you have to do is spend the money on something "for the family." Then you get to blow it, but it benefits everyone. Like you could go get a pedicure, and that would benefit "the family" because when mommy's toes are pretty, she's happy. And when mommy is happy, everyone's happy. See how that works?

Enjoy! Oh, and those hammock pictures are AWESOME!!!

I read your posts and I am so totally bummed that I won't be meeting you at BlogHer in a few short months. When will our day come, Heather of the EO?

I would like to point out that BlogHer is sponsoring a food conference in SF in September. You eat food, right? :)

Have an excellent time at the wedding without the little people. I hear that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I'm right there with you on the craziness thing. My life has been just hectic lately.

And the money is rightfully yours. I'm so glad that MN decided that, because we're enough of a nanny-state as it is!

Motherboard said...

You were in WI? I lived a short 20 miles from WI... DID that is... I wonder if we will ever meet?

The photos from your cabin are to die for!

(Don't you love WI? Where were you?)

Eowyn said...

Yes Heather. Riveting.

Tell me what movie that one is from. Except she doesn't say Heather.

And you should totally spend that money on something extra-super fun!
