There is a boy here who teaches me

Wednesday~June 10, 2009

He humbles me. He challenges me. He inspires me.
He is bright and alive and imaginative and kind.
He is sensitive, empathetic and intuitive.
He has a great sense of humor.
He is artistic. He is lovely. He is mine.

He came along and gave me the chance to call myself Mother.
He forgives me. He accepts me.
He brings out the best in me.
He brings out the worst in me.
Then he gives me time to change the worst.
He is unconditional. He is wise. He is love.

What a curious little mysterious reflection of God.
With all my heart I hope to be like him one day.

Miles, I love you...even when I've no strength to show it. Thank you for being you.

What a sweet tribute, Heather. Once again your talent for putting the deepest feelings of a mother's heart into words simply blows me away.

I'm sure he would write you a tribute right back if he could write yet! He's blessed to have a mommy who loves him so much.

Isn't it amazing how much our children teach us?

I love that - he will love reading it one day too, no doubt.

(I also like what it says here in the comment box - too funny!)

I got shivers reading that for some reason - maybe it was the lines about bringing out the best and worst in you. So honest, so true of mother/child relationships!

I love this. It's an anthem of Mama's of boys.

Just stumbled upon your blog and I am in love. :) I appreciated your post about your little man's VP shunt--it sounds like he's doing well.

Take care!

This is beautifully put, Heather. And you know what? I feel this is the perfect summary of all the ". . . Mouth of Miles" and other posts about him and motherhood that you've written. Lovely.

That is so beautiful. They really do have a way of bringing out our best AND our worst but in the end I think they make us better people.

Such truth to your words! I can relate... again. :)

So beautiful, Heather. We do learn so much about ourselves, about the world, and about God from our children. I especially love the line about how our children are a "curious little mysterious reflection of God" -- both for their unconditional love, and for all they teach us, sometimes in difficult ways.

Just beautiful.

I love that quote, and your post reminds me of it. They truly are reflections of God, aren't they?

You need to print this out on some lovely paper and frame it for him. How wonderful.

You are all I want to be in a mother.

How beautiful and loving this is. I know someday he'll read it and be awed that such a wonderful woman is his mother.
