The Beach One

Thursday~August 6, 2009

If we get enough heat
we head to the beach

our friends

they look like
an old picture
in the beautiful hat
and soft colors
at the beach

I love old pictures

The weeks are flying by
but sometimes the days
are very slow

Not when we're at the beach
The happy makes the day fast

And from my view
I drink in the sights
and Asher tries to drink the lake
and I say stop
that's yucky
so he eats sand
and I say stop

but

mostly
I just drink in the sights

Our friends are family
and we look out for each other
and we laugh
and we say
to each other's children
DON'T THROW SAND
and that's OK
because we're family

the beach
it speeds the day
for the wanting to keep it going
until we struggle
with sand on skin
releasing it to the car
hoping for more heat
tomorrow

Nothing gets done
of the to-do
and we are unplugged
with our family
and drinking the day
at the beach

Oh Heather I love this. I can feel the sand in my toes and crotch just reading this ;)

Kim,

What was I thinking? I need to go back and include crotch sand.

You're a goof.

Lovely. I miss those days with my young mom friends and their little ones, all of us declaring a beach day and leaving the cleaning and the laundry for after the kids have gone to bed. We were all the same age, and so were our kids, and it seemed like we were sort of living outside of time.

Thanks for the little sigh...

Sounds wonderful and I love the pictures!

We love that beach too. I can tell from the pictures :) So fun. We'll see you soon for more adventures at the near park. This makes me want to go to the beach...we'll talk.

I'm yearning to go to the beach now...and I hate the beach. =P Beautiful reflections.

You know, I was never much of a beach person until I had children. And now I swear I could live there, stopping only now and then for a sandy bite of PBJ.
The beach is my happy place. And apparently yours too. :-)

I was laughing at Kim's comment. It's the honest truth, though....just as honest as the poem. I love that you go unplugged. At the beach, anyhow. :)

So funny...my Facebook status update yesterday was "The days last forever but the years fly by... Any way to reverse that? Or if the days are going to last forever, can they be all easy and happy?" Sounds like maybe I just need to head to the beach...

Loved the post and I'm going to try to ignore the to do list and move into a happy place, too.

I love those days when you can forget your list and enjoy family and friends for a while. Aah, that was nice to read. :-)

Deb said...

it looks and sounds absolutely divine. what a perfect day. and i bet you look hot in a swim suit!

Heather of the EO said...

Deb, I burst out laughing because my friend and I joked about how we never take our cover-ups off. Then we pointed out all the skinny ladies with small children and decided they were all surely the Nanny. :)

jen@odbt said...

We love the beach too!

LOVE this. Love, love, love.

A little jealous down here, miles and miles from the beach, too, I have to say.

Wow the sentiment is beautiful and your pictures are amazing. Is there nothing you cannot do?

Wish I were at the beach...

When we lived in LA it was not an easy thing to drag our little boys to the beach, with all of their stickiness, equipment, and saggy diapers. But for some reason we kept doing it.

Glad you are enjoying the basking.

I'm totally pretending I didn't read Kim's comment about crotch sand. Yikes.

We were at a lake today!!! Not the ocean - a lake! And it looks a lot like those pics. I love the photographs Heather and who are you kidding with not taking your cover-up off? You are one hot mama!! Deb is right!

:-)

Love the drinking - I'm gonna keep that in mind and try to drink in the rest of summer and although I want to go fast sometimes, I really really do want it to go sloooowwwww.........and I will drink it.

Thanks lady.

Beautiful beach shots - and words of course ;) But the first one does look like an old picture! I constantly have to tell Fynn not to drink the ocean/lake water as well... blech!

That sounds so dreamy...

Just spent 4 days at the beach. It was perfect.
Wish I lived closer.

Cynthia said...

Awesome! I played hookie yesterday from housework and took the kids to the waterpark. That's the closet 'beach' we've got in these parts.

LisAway said...

LOVE it. Drink it up.

I especially love exactly the way you put the part about Asher trying to drink the lake, then eat the sand.

tiarastantrums said...

oh to live near a beach!

Becky said...

The happy makes the day fast.

I love that. A lot.

Roban said...

Life doesn't get much better.... well, I guess it would if the sand stayed put. Amazing how much sand stays with you after a trip to the beach!

Kristen@nosmallthing said...

We're getting a good dose of the beach this week, too! It's amazing what a little warm sand between your toes will do for your attitude!!!

And you're right...nothing gets done, but it sure is a good vacation from the ordinary, get-it-done kind of days, isn't it?!

being unplugged and having a family and friends day like that... what more could you ask for?

Debbie said...

My beach days are over for the year. Now, I'm up to my eyeballs in the kids' homework. Can I just say - yuck!

The beach IS so much fun. I love outings that are just about spending time together and not about getting things done. I'm horrible about being tied to my to-do list. I wish someone could tell me how to balance it all, but I'm pretty sure it's something I just need to figure out for myself (clearly the balance has been WAY off lately as I've found it very hard to keep up with the blogging community. I've been reading, just not commenting and I miss the interaction)

You're right! That picture does look like and old picture. It has all the ambience of one too! What a beautiful day at the beach!
