7 Quick Takes

Friday~November 20th, 2009

-1-

I don't want to rush my children through their childhood. But man, I want to sleep later in the morning. You know, later than say, 5ish.

-2-

I don't know Anissa Mayhew like so many of my blog friends do, but I'm still praying for her because that's what happens in this community. I'm blown away by Annisa's strength and vibrancy. She's touched my heart this week and I'll continue to pray for her and her family. (Anissa is a 35 year old mother, wife, and blogger who suffered two strokes this week and remains in the ICU. You can read more from her husband today at Hope 4 Peyton)

-3-

Have you heard about Christmas Change? I mentioned recently that Seth and Amber Haines had something exciting up their sleeves, and Christmas Change is it! If you're looking for ways to share in the giving of the Christmas season by offering more to the poor and in need around you, this is the place to go. You can choose a way to give this year and then share your story on the site. It's a beautiful thing. Check it out and be inspired.

-4-

OK, so we close on our current house on December 29th. We're still in dealings with the seller of the house we have a purchase agreement on. The inspection revealed some major things that need to be updated. You know, major as in replacing the roof and the garage foundation. Spendy stuff. Stuff we didn't know about when we made our offer. I bring this up because I mentioned it in a recent post and have gotten emails asking if everything has worked out. Just wanted to say we won't know for quite a few days because of the back and forth of paperwork and such. Thank you for caring and for asking and for crossing all your fingers and toes and sending good thoughts and praying for us. It's a stressful time.
I'll definitely let you all know when we know you know so you know you know...

-5-

Asher is doing an excellent job of keeping his glasses on. He's a total rock star, that kid.

-6-

I went out to dinner last night with Susan, her mom, and a whole load of their friends. It was the loveliest time. I love being with other women, sharing our stories and laughing. There's nothing that's the same kind of beautiful in life.
And tonight, I get to head out with Sabrina, Kelly and Sarah. We're going to opening night of New Moon. Maybe some of you would be excited about that, or maybe you're going to the movie too because you love Edward or Jacob? I have to confess that the only reason we are excited is because we find it to be an absolutely hilarious and intriguing study in human behavior, this crazy Twilight phenomenon.

-7-

Remember how I mentioned the possibility of a Midwestern bloggy gathering? Well, myself and a few others have been working hard on making it happen. So it will! If you're interested in going, put a big heart (or something) across January 9th and 10th of 2010. It will be here before you know it. We're currently working on a site that will give you all the details. That should be finished in about a week, so be on the look out! I'm truly excited about this, and would absolutely love to meet you, even if I don't know you. So please feel welcome if you'd like to come. We decided to call this get-together CUPCAKE '10, and although that may sound a bit foo foo fluffy, it is and it isn't. I'll be explaining the title on the new site coming soon. Feel free to ask questions in the comments or via email at fullcircle(underscore)doula(at)yahoo(dot)com

Peace to you today.

5ish? That's rough. Dreaming and hoping a way to Cupcake '10 finds me.

Blessed said...

Oh I so hear you on the whole 5ish thing... if you figure out how to make your kids sleep until 6ish or even better 7ish just let me know - please :)

And I agree with what you say about Anissa - I didn't know her before this week either - but prayers for her are what happen in this community. Just another reason I'm so glad that I'm a part of it.

And the glasses boy - soooo cute!

MamaBear said...

At least in the winter it's still pitch black out at 5 - when Julia pulls that I pull back the curtains and mumble something about it being the middle of the night and stumble back to bed. That doesn't work so well in the summer unfortunately.

I'm looking forward to hearing more details on Cupcake '10! Is it bad that I'm already thinking of carpools plans without the details?

I'll be praying about your house situation!

Unknown said...

I can't believe how fast you sold your house!

Anissa is great, although we were not in constant contact she did reach out to me when Ezra was diagnosed, since she has been there too.

Also Asher is so cute in glasses, every time I see a pic I think of that cute little boy in Jerry Maguire.

I really hope your Cupcake '10 is within easy driving distance of me. Because I am in the midwest and I want to meet some of my stalkees. :)

My boys just finally figured out that it's ok to sleep until 7:00am.

Though some mornings they wake up and play in their room, well more like fight and scream at 6:00am in their room....I'm pretty sure the entire apartment building hates us.

Blessings!

Deb said...

would you mind terribly if an east coaster found her way to cupcake '10?

i will say, it is quite nice having kids that can wake up early, get their own breakfast and hang out in front of the tv without disturbing their parents.

Deb said...

ps: i have been meaning to tell you how rockin asher looks in his specs. what a cutie.

Sadly, I will not be a cupcake this year. And I am Quite Irritated that you and Kelly are getting together and failed to invite me. Forget the fact that I live in DC.

Liz Mays said...

I'm so glad Asher is keeping those glasses on.

Praying and praying for Anissa!!! And praying...

I can't wait to hear the location for cupcake. I hope it's not far!

Kristina P. said...

I will be going to New Moon for a good laugh. I wish I could come to the cupcake fest!

Have it on Jan 10, it's my bday. Just sayin' .
( not that I'm going, we are hibernating in igloos by then up here in Ontario , plus I'm a little old for cupcakes I guess)

steepled fingers for the house stuff.

Susan Berlien said...

Yeah, I'm one of those Twillight geeks you'll be observing. Dinner last night was fun and I'm looking forward to Cupcake '10 :)

Unknown said...

Okay. I just may have to fly in for cupcakes. I'm pretty sure I'm really a Midwesterner deep down. Who wears flip-flops year round.

:-)

I can't get my kids up during the week for school and on the weekends they are up at 6 am. What is up with that??

Melissa Haak said...

I can't wait for Cupcake 10...I hope there is money left after christmas so I can come!

I also really hope your house comes through...we had so much back and forth over fixing big things with mine...I totally get how stressful it is! Good Luck!

Life Laugh Latte said...

Asher is so adorable...I just melt! It must be difficult to discipline that sweet little face. Looking for a new service project for the kids. Something simple, meaningful. Hmmm Maybe if I get my act together I can participate in #3. Have a great weekend. Holly

Buttons are ready to go for tonight!!!!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to hear more about Cupcake '10 -- not that I'll probably be able to attend, but I'd love to experience it vicariously through you :)

As has been mentioned just a *few* times, Asher is adorable. But you already knew that.

Melissa Stover said...

to get your kids to sleep late you have to keep them up later. it's a trade off, i know, but i can't handle mornings. my kids don't go to bed until 9 or 10 and they sleep till 10 the next day. and so do i.

Heather of the EO said...

Melissa,
Believe me, we've tried it! :)

Seems no matter what time they are put to bed, they always wake at the same time...just the way they are!

(and it could be so much worse, I was just feeling complainy this morning...and many mornings)

wendy said...

I think one of the hardest things of raising little ones is the sleep deprivation and a leisurly "sleep in weekend"
My daughter feels the same way

Then you get old, like me and you get up early anyway, just cause you want to make sure you didn't die during the night. (tee, hee)

Prayers to your friend who suffered the stroke. Such hard times.

Fingers continued crossed in your "house buying sage" groan, so stressful for sure

I love that Rock Star

my daughter went to New Moon premier last night and LOVED IT!!!!

I'm so jealous that there's no Cupcake South. Also, Team Jacob!

happygeek said...

We were baking muffins at 6:25 this morning.
Because they'd been up for a while and really what else do you do at early freaking o clock?

Happy movie tonight!!!!

Wish I could come to cupcake but I can't. =[ Have such a wonderful time though!

Thanks for keeping us up to date on the house. I'm very excited for you and hope it turns out well.

The Christmas Change sounds like a wonderful thing. I have so much respect for those two.

"I love being with other women, sharing our stories and laughing. There's nothing that's the same kind of beautiful in life."

I could not agree more. Stories are gold. Laughter is gold. I am thrilled to have found you and several other women in this odd world. I love the sharing of stories, the bartering of dreams, the virtual laughter that sings long after we've logged off.

Thanks for infusing my ordinary day with a bit of the extraordinary.

(Now, I am craving cupcakes.)

Carrie said...

Asher is SO CUTE in those glasses, I can't get over it!!! He is cute than the Jerry maguire kid! :)

KatBouska said...

I feel the same about Anissa...I don't know her well, but her I think we can all identify with how horrible it would be to go through something like this as a family. Just awful.

TKW said...

Oh, details please, about Cupcake '10! I found you via the awesome chicks at Momalom.

I hear you on the 5am wake up call...my kids have still not adjusted to the time change. Mornings come eeeaaarrrly around here.

Emma said...

I'm right thier with you on the 5 oclock wake up call. yuck no thanks but every morning here I am tired and wishing the little one would sleep.

Elizabeth @claritychaos said...

Right on, friend. On all of it. Good luck with the house stuff, and I'm excited for Cupcake. :)

Kimberly Vanderhorst said...

I just spent twenty minutes catching up on your blog and I don't know where to BEGIN to comment. So I'll just say I love you to bits and leave it at that, okay?

Kelly @ Love Well said...

You close on December 29. You move. And then it's Cupcake '10.

Talk about a crazy holiday season at the EO, eh?

Corinne Cunningham said...

Did I ever tell you Fynn was almost an Asher? I don't know why that hit me really funny today!

While reading through your points I know after finishing each part I had something to comment on, but I forget. Doh. Bad blogging friend.

Re. #1: Daylight Savings Time is not the friend o' the parent of small children. Tiny Baby went from giving us a nice, quasi-civilized 6:30 a.m. wake-up call to a far less dignified 5:30 one. It's as if he is saying: You go ahead and change your clocks for no reason; my internal clock will keep on ticking just like it did before. Alas and alack.

P.S. I gave you a little shout out in my post yesterday because I blatantly borrowed the phrase "extraordinary ordinary" and wanted to give credit where credit is due. Hope it sent some new fans your way. I know they won't be disappointed with what they find here!

Andrea @ The Train to Crazy said...

I hear you about the early risers! I always say my middle child has the internal alarm clock made of steel. It won't budge.

And those little glasses are so cute!

Ash said...

Oh those glasses!!! Devastatingly adorable.

You're in my thoughts about the house - always such a headache, but just think what wonderful pies you will make with the fruit from those trees - or at least great batting practice for the boys :-)

North Texas is considered mid west, right?

Anissa - one of the bloggers I have not been lucky enough to get to know yet, but she's in my prayers. Scary to say the absolute least.

Happy weekend my dear. Dance baby dance!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm feeling you on the 5 a.m. wake-up. My 2 year old thinks that's the very best time of day.

Cupcake '10 sounds awesome!

Mammatalk said...

I don't know Anissa, but have heard the news from several bloggers. Heartbreaking. Much hope and strength sent out to her...

Cupcake '10 is going to rock.
