The boy who cried...

Posted on Tuesday~ February 24, 2009

We were having one of "those" rides home from preschool. The kind where I know very quickly that school has plum worn out my poor, weepy child. I was trying to refrain from blasting the music loud enough to cover the tantrum that was my child, all buckled in snug behind me, screaming with tears running down his cheeks.

This doesn't happen very often, but he was was mad, mad, mad. Because Asher had a sun visor on his window and he did not.

I guess he had a good point. I mean, why the sun-in-the-eyes favoritism, I don't know? Besides the fact that every time you turn, the sun switches sides, blinding whichever child is closest. The sun has no favorites. So I was trying to explain that when we turn onto our street the sun wouldn't be in his eyes anymore, but Miles was NOT having it. He was obviously extremely tired.

So I said "Miles, I think school must have really worn you out today."

Quiet.

"Do you think it did? Or are you just sad?"

"Some kids bonked me over and I cried."

"Oh...I'm so sorry, sweetie. Did you get hurt?"

"Yes." He sighs bigly.

"Well, did the teacher help you feel better?"

"No, she was too busy."

"Oh that's too bad....maybe the bonking was an accident."

"No...(very sad, pitiful little voice) "It wasn't an accident...they pushed me down and then...one of them...called me a SHEEEEEEP!" (crying gets louder)

"Oh sweetie, I bet that DID make you feel sad." (Mama Bear starts bumping around inside me)

Quiet...

And then he says it...

"That didn't happen...I want the sun blocker thing now."

(I stifle a laugh because I just can't help it. Thank God he can only see the back of my head)

"Miles. You just cried sheep!"

"Huh?"

"You just cried sheep! You made up a story and had me believing it was the truth and now when you tell me these things I won't know if you're telling me the truth or not. Do you understand?"

Silence.

Baaaaa!

What an imagination that one has! He must be like some of the kids I work with who say that they were "holding the marijuana for a friend."

Oh that is too hilarious. Bless his little heart. He has a quick mind, that one. And bless his mommy's heart, too.. you have to figure out how to mold and train that sharp little mind. :)

So funny that they figure out how to push our buttons from such a young age.
I've had to learn over and over to push down that mama bear until I have more info. That mama bear used to get me in trouble a lot.

Wow! That kid has one great imagination. And clearly is super smart! It's amazing how they learn to do that from such a little age. Of course, my inner mommy-bear is vicious so I've had to train myself to discover the truth quickly before giving it free rein. I make the 3 bears look like housecats.

What a sweet, honest boy you are raising there! Did you get a new sun blocker for his side?

LMBO! That is so funny! The things kids come up with!

I am sorry but I laughed--out loud. Welcome to the world of "If I lie I will get my way not matter what". I have 2 girls that are in the "crying wolf" phase. Blah!!

Maybe if he gets a sunblocker he won't feel the need to be so baaaaad. :)

I thought only little girls were that good at manipulation....I thought I was going to get a break when my lil' guy got to the talking age but this post is telling me he's capable of giving me his fair share...

:-)

I'm very impressed that Miles fessed up to the fibbing on his own. We have to beat it, er, drag it out of Riley. He does have good stories, though!

Hope Miles gets good and rested! It sounds like he was worn out. My little ones tend to do the same thing when they have had enough.

Laughed out loud.

I like Miles. A lot.

Once when my youngest was about 5, he was riding with a new friend of mine. She was trying to get to know him and ask him questions. He told her a long story of how his mama and daddy met. Well, she thought the story was odd, so she said "I didn't know that was how they met. We will have to ask them about it when we get to your house" My sweet son just looked out the window and said "or you could just forget about it"

kids are great!

Too funny, once in kindergarten, Deklan told me that he didn't have a hot dog on hot dog day. I wanted to know what he had eaten, "Just what you put in my lunch." He told me really pitiful like.
I was so upset that they didn't give him a hot dog, I turned around to head back to the school, ready to blast them with a "Why the heck do I buy a hot dog card, if you're not going to use it to feed the kid?"
I had just pulled up in front of the school when he says, "Oh, actually, I forgot, I did have a hot dog."
argh!

That was too funny! I just love kidspeak.

By the way, did you see my last post? If not check it out, it was very difficult to write but will for sure be worth the read. If you feel led to do so, post about it so that we can get the word out so that this ministry I am starting will speak to many.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

I have a love/hate relationship with those times when you want to laugh soooo badly, and yet you know if you do your sunk. It happens so often at my house.

What a great story.

Peanut said...

I can't believe he could figure out that telling that story would get you all upset, maybe enough to get what he wanted... these kids are always one step ahead of us aren't they?! What a smartie-pants!
