Give me your favorite blog post. Please.

Tuesday~ October 6, 2009

I've been blogging for two years as of last Sunday. So today, when I realized the two year mark had come and gone, I went to look at my first post. It was a post that simply announced that I was new to blogging, that I'd been inspired to start a blog by my friend Kelly, and that I had no clue what I was doing.

It was riveting.

There were two comments.

I remember being completely confused by the first comment:

"It is customary in the "Blogging-Post-Commenter" community for a commenter to declare a sort of ownership of newly scripted blog posts by racing to place the first comment to said post. (Think explorer erecting flag on North Pole, Moon, etc...)

Typically, this braggadocio is rendered through a rather obnoxious, utterly avoidant of topic, singularly worded comment containing only the utterance:

"FIRST!!!!!!!!!!"

Since you are sponging up info on all-things-blog, I thought I would share this little pearl of wisdom with you...

Whilst, also, claiming your inaugural post as mine ~ for some future cyper-tally that will undoubtedly advance my place in line on the road to St. Peter!

Ha! ;)~"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I finally get it!!! Having perused the blogosphere for the past two years, I've seen this very thing in action over and over. I still don't really get why we bloggers do this, but I appreciate that my friend "C" tried to warn me.
Secondly, my inspiration for blogging, Kelly herself, said:
"ok--that first comment is way above my head so i'll just say, "Second!"
i look forward to checking in on these kiddos! i know it will bring a smile to my face evertime.
look out heather--this stuff is addicting!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hilarious. Kelly still deserves all the credit for pointing out the addictive nature of blogging. (And for pointing me in the direction of blogging my thoughts in the first place.)

Did I heed her warning about the addictive nature of blogging?

Well, we all know the answer to that one.

And still, I'm glad I'm here, addicted or not.

I've written just over 600 posts. 600. 600!

That's insane.

In my opinion, I've said something worthwhile in only about 10 of those posts. But really...I'm realizing that's just fine. Because this is blogging, and it's a beautiful way to slowly find out what it is you want to say, how you want to say it, and then say it, your way.

So anyway...I digress (as usual).

Here's what my blog wants for it's second birthday...

Are you ready?

Tell us (my blog and I) what your all-time favorite post is of your very own. It can be anything, funny and simple, profound or not. Whatever you want.

Let's keep it simple, without a linky thingy. Go look through your archives and then copy and paste the link to your favorite post in the comments.

And lastly, if you have don't have time to visit all the links, please go read the one from the comment BEFORE yours.

We do weird things in the blogosphere. We race to comment "FIRST!" in an effort to appear the most attentive. We get addicted to telling our stories and reading the stories written by friends we've never met, and then we ask each other to link up for all kinds of things.

The truth is, most of it is meant to draw attention to ourselves. So today, I'd like the focus to be on you and your favorite post. So let me have it. I'll be sure to visit, even if I'm slow about it due to children and such.

Thank you for two years of words and connection, insight, humor, and validation.

You rock the party.

Now go ahead and leave here to search your archives for your favorite, then come back and share your rockage...

Please.

I love what your very first commenter EVER said. It strikes me as extremely funny in both form and content.

My favorite post? I think you already read it. It's about saving for a raining day but not missing out in the mean time. It was about my mom. If you didn't comment on it, I'll come back and post the link for you.

Happy Blogiversary!!!!!

I couldn't just pick one, so I picked two (and these are only since April of this year). I have been blogging since April of 2006- that's a lot of posts!

Happy anniversary! What a fun way to celebrate. :)

I seriously am having a hard time thinking which post to highlight. I suppose the ones that I really poured my heart and mind into were my *tips* posts where I've tried to educate/help others on topics that I've become semi-expert in. One is on returning to work as a nursing mom with lots of tips on pumping:

http://www.themarketingmama.com/2009/04/how-to-pump-successfully-at-work.html

The other is basically a starter guide to learning about food allergies in little kids - what to watch for, how to manage it, etc.

http://www.themarketingmama.com/2009/03/all-about-food-allergies-part-one.html

I should probably mention these read more like NOVELS rather than blog posts - they are both rediculously long and written much more like magazine articles. :)

You are too cute, with your blog love and and twitter shout outs. :)

So this isn't necessarily my favorite post, but it's a very early post of mine and the story is just so representative of me and my life.
http://clarity-chaos.blogspot.com/2009/05/for-better-or-worse.html

so now, what's YOUR favorite post? You have to play along.

I picked this post: http://temporaryinsanitybykym.com/2007/11/finding-joy/

Not because it's especially briliant or funny or inspiring or anything, but because it marks a changing point in my blogging. The point at which I started digging deeper and being more ME than I ever had been before. Self-improvement is kind of the theme of my blog now, I guess, and this post marks the starting point of all that.

oh i don't know... i am in one of those moods where i hate all of my posts. i guess i like the ones where i write about my whirlwind courtship with my hubs... not because they were particularly well written, but because it made me realize what an incredible man i lucked upon. reliving some of our outrageous memories was fun. i am so bad about not being sentimental. i hardly ever look back... i kind of am always just in the moment (but not in a good way).

anyway, this was an awesome idea. i will go check out my upstairs neighbor L-A now.

I loved Melanie's Rainy Day post too...that one resonated SO DEEPLY for me, as I had the exact same experience when my mom passed away.

I haven't written a favorite for literally months and months. I'll have to dig back through my archives.
Maybe the Father's Day one: http://divergentpathways.blogspot.com/2009/06/fathers-shaping-life-and-death.html (That was my first favorite.)

And my first-ever commenter (besides my friend Brillig) was Kimberly. She wrote: "Hey! So glad I clicked the linky from Brillig's blog and came over here - you're a hoot! I'll pop in tomorrow to leave a slightly more intelligent comment and read your second post, but for the moment I'm going to giggle my way to bed."

I loved her instantly. I wanted to frame it!

And she led me to you. And I'm so glad you continue to write. You have a magic all your own.

Oh Heather. Two years with your words floating around in the blogosphere hitting all kinds of hearts and I thank God one of those hearts was mine.

I can't even begin to think right now about a favorite post of mine but I just finished one that will post tomorrow that my heart is in. I am too tired to search around for any others but you know my belief - if the heart is there most of the important stuff is handled.

I am so friggin' thrilled we bumped into each other on the journey my friend.....here's to more adventures in real life.

Great idea by the way. :-)

Wow, I can't believe I haven't run into you already. I came over from the extraordinary blog of Katdish's.

Favorite post, huh? This is where my insecurity will show. Let's see...

Nice to meet you!!

Wow, that IS a hard question. I was looking through my archives - there's alot of "Just okay" stuff in there. :)

BUT, I will say that one post I wrote which helped ME big time with my perspective was: Sitting with him

Happy 2 years blogging Lady. You are an inspiration!!!

Heather, you know I think you may have been the first, or almost the first, commenter on my blog . . . I didn't know what I was doing, and had no idea that anyone would want to read my blog and comment on it! But you kept coming back and leaving comments, and those comments were so encouraging and made it so much fun to keep writing! So THANK-YOU for your lovely comments and so much that I have learned from you and your blog about blogging, and mothering, and life! I am so glad you are a writer, and share your gift with the blog-world!

I have no idea how to pick a favorite post, but my favorite ones of late are the two I wrote about Story Unfolding (Part One) (Part Two).

Whatever the reason, I'm so glad you blog, Heather. Your voice thrills me.

Ok, I am finally getting around to this. Life has been CRAZY here. One of my all time favorite posts that I have written is the one about why I started knitting.

Wow.

Um, nothing pops to mind, but you've been with me from the beginning (of this blog anyway) and so you've probably already read whatever my favorite post is.

Now if I could just figure out what that was. . .

I'm a little late to the game, but here's mine anyway:
