It seems that every time I unpack a box and put the contents of it carefully around the house, I discover four more boxes I didn't know about.
(ooooh, I almost trailed off there, with a metaphor about boxes and the stuff in them and baggage of the emotional variety, but I'll refrain. You're welcome.)
The thing about these boxes is that I have no time for them. There are two little guys here who need my attention and they'd prefer that I NOT constantly tell them I can't play because I have other things to do. And also, they like it if I feed them occasionally. So yeah, the boxes are slow to empty.
The other thing is, I'm preparing for a blogging retreat. Remember? Cupcake '10? It's already here (or this weekend anyway) and I'm getting SO excited. For a while there I wondered HOW IN THE WORLD I would pull off moving over the holidays WHILE planning Cupcake WITH NO INTERNET, but things are coming together thanks to Steph and a number of other lovely ladies who have been pitching in, and now I'm positive this thing is going to go off without a hitch! (Unless you consider large amounts of frosting a hitch, then YES, there's that one hitch.)
Sure, I'm happy to be getting a little vacation from this currently overly stressful life of mine, but that's not all. More than anything, I'm just plain honored to be looking forward to spending a couple of days with the amazing group of women that signed up for this thing.
Steph had an idea to feature each one of them on the Cupcake site so we could get to know a bit about each other and put some names with faces. It's been so much fun to read through the small bios and learn more about this truly amazing, talented, beautiful and hilarious group of women. Head on over there and meet them too, would you?
Maybe we should place bets on which one of them will eat the most cupcakes? Let's see, there are about 30 attendees and I ordered 72 made-from-scratch cupcakes from the Daisy cupcakery in Madison...hopefully that will be enough, ERIN. (That there was a hint for that whole "which one will eat the most cupcakes" thing.)

Repeat after me, "Unpacking, like life, is a process." Not unlike potty training, pregnancy, growing up ourselves as mamas, getting gray hair, etc. :)
Enjoy your kids and the Cupcake blogging retreat & return to the boxes when/if you have time.
If not, I'm betting Goodwill/Savers/DI and any other number of charity shops might be willing to take those boxes off your hands.
PS: Any dark chocolate ganache cupcakes by chance? :)
How much do I want to be a cupcake?? :) Have fun! We need a west coast version sometime.
I still have a box yet to be unpacked hidden away in the laundry room.
We moved into this house 2 years ago July 4th.
It's kind of sentimental now.
Enjoy the mini vacay!!!!
P.S. no pressure, but I'm eagerly awaiting the shots of the new house. Seriously, no pressure :-)
Found the box with the camera yet?
I so wish I could be there!
And I heard a rumor that you are perhaps coming to the Casual Blogger Conference in May?
You SO deserve your upcoming retreat! :) Enjoy!!
(and you should bring up the possibility of a Cupcake 10 1/2... given six months to plan I would be there, and help w/ the planning :) Hubby knows I'm at least going in 2011, but I don't think I can wait that long!)
Heather, I totally love you!! Daisy's is the best- completely awesome cupcakes!!! Now I am looking forward to this weekend even more:)
Erin SO has us beat. And just wait'll you get a good look at her- actually you might miss her. You won't believe what she can put away. Love her.
I can hardly wait for this weekend!!
Steph
girl, you are going to have some fun!
Can't wait to hear about it. And congrats on the final (somewhat final) stages of your move. :)
(I just came back from reading the bios.)
I wish I could come to cupcake '10 but be sure and enjoy it for me and tell us how it goes!
Unpacking with children is rough! They want your time, you want to give it, and those boxes keep maliciously calling your name.
I hope you do another cupcake retreat! I certainly could not attend this one...oh well.
Soo, 72 cupcakes. That's really sweet of you to think of me and all the cupcakes I'll need. What is everyone else going to eat?
I won't be jealous one bit this weekend.
OK. That's a lie. I will be oozing jealousy. From every pore.
I'm gonna ask Debbie for her number, so that I can call her this weekend, so we can talk about y'all behind your backs. Because we are jealous and petty like that. Well... at least I am petty and jealous like that. Debbie is a sweetheart, but I know I could convert her to the dark side with a little effort.
ahh un packing....a year later and I still have boxes! You learn what you need and what probably should go to good will real quick!
I am so bummed I couldn't make it to cupcake '10. Hope you guys have fun and you can give Erin my cupcake :-) Hope you guys do it again next year!
I'm so jealous! You girls are going to have so much fun!!!
I so wish I could have been able to go, but Hunter's bowling tournament is calling my name! I hope you all have a blast and that you get some much deserved time away!
I was going to say Erin even before you did...she loves her some desert!
OMG...why did I not know about Cupcake?!? I totally would have gone.
Pah-leeze let me know if any space opened up...I'd totally go:)
I just read through all of your blog posts that I've missed and I'm a basket case. You have spoken to my heart more than once. I need peace right now and in some ways, you are letting me let the rest of the gunk out so that hopefully I can find that peace.
You are awesome. Thank you for being part of my life.
can i ante in for cupcake 11?
sounds delish and delightful.
as for boxes ... i've been known to postpone unpacking for months.
im glad you're happy in your new place.
Good luck with that unpacking. I feel your pain......:)
