The K and/or K in the Ho Ho Ho

There's something so beautiful about a house full of women. The chatter and laughter, the smiles and questions. The give and take. The humor. The food...

I hung out in a house full of women (and one man) today at one of my favorite places--the warm and inspiring home of K and/or K.

Kelly hosted her second annual Santa's Workshop. She invited the lovely ladies in her life to the Vlachster (K and/or K) home, asking us to bring our unwrapped gifts and some cookies. Then we did the cookie exchange thing, talking our heads off while getting our wrapping out of the way. Kelly even provided the wrapping paper, bows, gift bags, and tissue paper to help us accomplish this Christmas chore.

(Even though some of us haven't done our shopping yet...cough...SABRINA!) (Oh...and ME.)

Anyway. Today's Santa's Workshop was a much needed break for me.

As icing on the cake, I FINALLY got to meet Megan of sensible of shoe. I've been reading her blog since I first started mine, and it's one of my favorites. And there she was in the flesh, just as lovely as I had predicted! I helped her wrap a few of her presents. I'm pretty sure she'll mention my kindness on her blog. I mean, I'm an EXCELLENT gift wrapper.

And then I watched as another little elf, Sarah, told a few of us a story, all the while pulling the paper around a box that held a sweater for her mom. She kept eye contact and carried on the conversation as she reached for her sister's hand, which she pulled over to the box, placing the pointer finger in the middle of a cross of ribbon. They proceeded to work together to make a bow. Her sister didn't miss a beat as she smiled over at Sarah, listening to her story and helping her put the finishing touches on the gift.

I thought about how women are multi-taskers. We strive to get things done, more than one thing at a time. All the while, we're taking care of each other. We come together and revitalize each other with an understanding ear and a genuine interest in each other. We laugh and act like fools. We sheepishly get to know one another until we get to a comfortable place and let loose a little. That comfortable place where we can be ourselves, relax, and let our defenses down.

Well, at least this is true in the home of K and/or K. That's how cozy and comfortable it is there. I think you can even feel that when reading their blog. (You should check it out. The cider is probably still on, and the warmth is always there.)

I thrive on girl time.

Thank you, Kelly. Can I come over again tomorrow?

I'm hoping Kelly posts pictures! I'm so glad you had a fun time. It is great to get together with a bunch of women. I invited a couple of women to my cookie exchange who I hadn't seen in years! It was like I just saw them yesterday!

Ah, that sounds like such a lovely time. I wish I had more girlfriends here...working on it though. It's always hard moving to a new town. I digress though...this is about YOU! You totally deserve some good girl time, so YIPEE!!! I'm really glad you were able to get out of your house and have a time to recharge your batteries.

And that's why I wish I lived closer to my sisters. That's built in relaxation, right there.

She provided the paper? And the bows? And the tape? AND the cider? Wow! Sounds divine!

What an awesome idea! I'm glad you had some time away from worries today to just enjoy the company of other women. Awesome!

One of my bridal showers was a "Farmer's Wife" theme, wherein all the ladies made a book of advice for me. My aunt gave me this: "Upon marriage, get yourself some girlfriends."

At the time I thought it really strange advice for a newlywed. But it's true - it's really, really true. Estrogen is ESSENTIAL for survival.

Sheesh. I might post about this myself!

To Heather: I am so happy you had that time away.

To Steph: And here I simply thought you were quoting My Fair Lady. Sort of.

Oh my gosh. What am I thinking. I forgot to mention the most important part! COOKIES! NOW it sounds like heaven. (as if there could be no cookies in heaven)

Maybe you and I love girl time so much because we live in houses full of men. Makes sense! But we are work horses aren't we? All of the natural guilt we carry around has to get burned off somewhere! I am glad you got out and had fun. That is especially important when you have been through so much lately. If I lived near you I would come caroling at your door!

I am the queen procrastinator! But it was better to be able to sit and chat with all my girls! And it was wonderful to see you and be my silly self around you, and you just laugh at me. Or with me? Or both!!! Either way, I like you Heather!

I am always so jealous when bloggers meet bloggers. Hasn't happened to me yet. Anyone want to come over?

What a clever idea... I always wait until the last minute to wrap gifts. Last year I was hiding in my closet until well past midnight rapping gifts. I am not a night person so I was not happy about it.
