In which I prove I'm quite a random geek

Tuesday~ May 26, 2009

On Thursday, we're heading Up North for a little vacation. We'll be gone through Sunday, so I'm pretty sure I'll be going through internet withdrawal. I will be unable to play Word Twist on facebook. You might hear me crying, but this is actually good. Everyone needs a little detox every now and then. Maybe I'll stop unscrambling words on street signs after this break.

STOP. top-pot-spot-pots-sop-tops (Yes, you can even make a lot of words from the simple word STOP.) Yes, I've stared at a stop sign, finding those words.

Why does the list of things to get done before you go on vacation have to be so terribly long? And why do I have to take it so far? Can't I just shop for vacation needs and then pack like normal people do? And just leave it at that? OH NO, not me. Why must I also insist that every project I've ever thought up should be finished, all library materials should be returned (early), all bills should be paid (early), and every last article of clothing should be washed, dried, and put away? Would it kill me to leave well enough alone and just leave?

It's possible that I watched Jon and Kate plus 8 really closely last night (quite depressing). And then it's also slightly possible that I psycho-analyzed both of them to death. Maybe. And it's also possible that I think I have all the answers to how they got to this ugly place, AND I just might think I know EXACTLY what's going on right now. Because apparently I'm possibly a fake psychologist (who maybe analyzes people on reality shows) Maybe. (It might also maybe be true that Ryan and I talked at length about the show after it's conclusion. Just maybe.)

When we're Up North this week, I hope we do a really big puzzle. I would like it if the puzzle has lots of faces on it.

If you think I'm weird, you need to take a look at these photos of Ryan, his twin brother, K, and K's girl, D...

(D, K, & R)

They're playing a game where you have to take an Oreo apart, put it on your forehead (creamy side down), and then try to get the cookie in your mouth without using your hands. ( This takes a lot of forehead scrunching.) Yes, we do like to pretend we're in Junior High, thanks for asking.

And lastly...I think Miles is going to be an artist. Check this out:

Mike, does he have a future in illustration? Yeah, I thought so too. Check out that signature! He's obviously BRILLIANT thankyouverymuch.

Now off I go to conquer ALL THINGS before we leave...and then we'll leave...and then we'll be gone. (But don't try to rob us, our fierce dog and brother will be manning the castle.)

See ya when we get back, friends! Nothin' but love for ya.

Asher says, "MMMM..."

(and later) "WAAAAAH!"
you know, to make
MMMMWAAAAAH!

He's totally blowing you kisses.

(or maybe he was just eating a strawberry, one can never tell.)

um yeah...BYE.

Things I thought while reading this post:

I haven't tried Word Twist. I really want to, because it sounds like a game that is right up my alley. But I don't need another time suck in my life!

I am JUST like you before leaving on vacation. Just.like.you.

I saw your tweets on Jon & Kate, and how heartbreaking it was. Unfortunately, I don't get that channel. But my husband and I talk at length about many such things.

That Oreo game sounds fun. And gross.

Yes, Miles is pretty amazing.

Have a wonderful time! We/I will miss you!

Randomness is all that it's cracked up to be and MORE. I love randomness.
I hate packing for vacations.
I am so with you on the ALL THINGS MUST BE DONE BEFORE I LEAVE OR I WILL GO NUTS! But I can tell you, I did leave the weeds in half of the flower beds b/c I just couldn't get to them all before we left, and no worries, b/c when we got home, there were weeds in ALL the flower beds, so it's all even Stephen now.
Have a wonderful time up north!!

Okay. This post? The randomness is delightful! I laughed out loud several times.

Hope you have a wonderful trip. :)

woohoo!! i am going to beat your score on word twist while you're gone. thanks for the heads up.

i am way, way, way jealous of your family vacation but still love ya anyway.

have a great time!!!

love that pic of asher.

The picture of Asher? Priceless. He's got great eyes! And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who "plays" word twist with signs. I got into the habit because my scores are never as high as they "should" be having to play one handed (the other holding the baby on my shoulder...)

On another note, thanks for reminding me of MckMama's chemical free cleaning post. My nursery coordinator is now asking whether tea tree oil is better than vinegar. It sounded like you had some experience with tea tree oil. If you have a moment before your trip (hah!) would you (or anyone else who trips across this comment) be able to weigh in with which solution you'd pick? I'd appreciate it since I confess to not being a parent who has disinfected anything yet...

Big oreo fans here - we're going to have to give that game a try. I watched J&K+8 too. Was it me or did the editing play into all the media coverage? I felt bad for them but especially for the kids. They know what's going on.

My girls and I watched Jon and Kate all evening leading up to the premiere; voyeurism at it's best!

Then today we analyzed them for another hour or so.

What is it about those two?

Annette Lyon said...

Looks like a fun Oreo game, but I doubt I'd have the patience. While everyone else was working on their one, I'd probably down 10.

Kristina P. said...

I made homemade Oreos last night, and they are delicious.

And how did I miss Jon and Kate?!?!

Kate Coveny Hood said...

I would have guessed that Asher was eating an oreo. I think that's an oreo face.

Have fun! Not a little fun, but a TON of fun!

Your Jon & Kate thing is hysterical...I may have done the same thing...I may think I'm Dr. Phil. Maybe.

Jen said...

I hope that you have a great vacation. I could never do those word things. It makes my head hurt.

Have a wonderful time!

Oh, and what did you think of Jon & Kate?

YOU are simply delightful, my dear, long lost, recently reaquainted DP friend! BTW, I am SO like that before I go somewhere too!! Completely befuddles my hubby. Have a fabulous time!

Debbie said...

I didn't know you were taking a little vacation. Good for you. I will miss you though! I love a puzzle. I have a good friend and we used to trade them back and forth. Great fun.
And Jon and Kate. I think I figured them out the one and only time I watched for 5 minutes. Bless her heart. She is a bitter woman.
Have a great time!!!

Between word twist and scramble Facebook eats up far too much of my time. I actually see letters and words floating around my head as I try to go to sleep some nights.

WHY ARE WE NOT FRIENDED ON FACEBOOK YET!!?!??!!

Nevermind, got you. HAHA one more way to get my Heather fix - SCORE!

And now you'll be away for the weekend *cries* s'ok. Have fun. Tell that illustrator to keep on keepin' on, but this time, no permanent marker. Oy!

*hugs* missin' you already.

Just have a great trip. Because you should. That's all.

Jon and Kate should totally read your blog.

I love Word Twist. It's totally educational, right?

I do all that crap before a trip, too. Everything has to be just so or it's almost impossible for me to walk out the door. Usually I'm rinsing the last of the dishes or scrubbing the toilet as my poor husband is yelling, "Get in the car, woman!!"

Although now that I think of it, I may be growing. For the last few days, whenever I've been going over the 20 things I need to do in 7 minutes I have to do them, I stop and prioritize. (I know, right?! Prioritizing - who knew?)
It's kind of liberating. And at the same time terrifying, because that's just not how I usually do things.

Wow. Look at me go. One more thing: with a signature like that, you've got a future Dr. Miles on your hands. Get ready for a ritzy retirement center in your old age. (I mean way in the future. Cuz you're not old. You know that's what I meant, right? Um, yeah. I'll stop now. Have a good trip.)

Melanie Jacobson said...

Yeah, I have the exact same Word Twist side effect.

Oh my gosh--I'm TOTALLY making my friends play that Oreo game with me! And then we'll go ice-blocking (which Anja is going to teach Miles and Asher someday if they haven't already done it, k?).

I think Miles has amazing drawing skills, and I noticed his "signature" before you even mentioned it. Either an artist or a doctor, you can be sure! :)

Have a great time, and don't get eaten by any early mosquitos.

Jon and Kate have been the topic of discussion at our house too, even though I never watched the show until I heard all about their supposed indiscretions. I caught up a lot over the weekend (thank you TLC!) and was pretty despondant over the premiere. It is so hard to discern the truth but in the end, I, as another possible psychologist, have come up with my own conclusions. (The fact that my husband and I sat down and talked about whether or not my becoming a famous author and using the money to do things his salary would never pay for would make him feel useless and emasculated had nothing to do with J&K. At all. Whatsoever.)

Anonymous said...

Holy crap. We are more alike than I originally thought. I do the EXACT same thing before vacation - like EVERYTHING needs to be done. Things I never do like clean the whole house!! Whaaa???? Why would I need to clean the whole house BEFORE we leave? Why not when we are actually LIVING THERE???

And yes, that Miles is a total artist. I see it. I really do. I want his signature. I may steal it.

:-)

Have an awesome trip. Good luck with the facey puzzle.

Ok, I'll continue with the randomness:

Have SO much fun on your trip!

I will be challenging you to a word twist game in the near future.

I too find myself unscrambling words. That's when I know I need to take a break!

No one likes to be around me prior to a trip. I blame my mother. She also had to have everything completed.

I LOVE puzzles. I used to sneak out at night (to our dining room) to complete puzzles in near darkness. Clearly, I was a parent's worst nightmare.

Peanut said...

Oh, and I just noticed that in Miles' drawing, there is a body. That brings me great relief to know that I am only months away from having a body in KK's drawings... you know, instead of just being a head with arms and legs ;)

charrette said...

Have a wonderful trip! Too bad our weeks of detox didn't coincide. I'm sorry you have to go through the pain of planning and packing, but I promise it will be worth it. (My secret fantasy is to go on vacation without planning or packing ANYTHING...just buy it all when I get there...and give away most of it when it's time to come home!)

Love you!

Kristen@nosmallthing said...

Oh, I get it. I have the same freak out every time we leave. Must clean the house from top to bottom. Everything needs to be squared away. It's a sickness.

And Jon & Kate? Well, I began to wonder about that family when they started to get all the free trips here and there, and all the free "stuff." They seemed a lot happier, though struggling more financially, before all that stuff. It is a very sad situation. Though I didn't watch the show last night...wonder what that was about...

Have a great vacation! Oh and the cleaning thing... I always want to leave my house perfect and never do, my sister-in-law does though!

Wendi@EveryDayMiracles said...

I was going to comment that we are leaving for vacation Friday morning and I am in process of freaking out over getting EVERYTHING done right now - in a cray tornadoe-esque way, but then I saw ALL of your fan club comments saying "Wow, I am so totally just like you!! I do the SAME thing before vacation! We are like twins! We should be BFFs!!" - And I thought, I'm not going to be a groupy. SO, I'm just not going to go there. :)

Loved the post.
Think you are fab.u.lous.
Hope you have a great time!
Look forward to hearing about it. :)

Have a wonderful vacation! I always HATE the long list of 'to do' stuff before leaving which includes leaving behind a spotless house because who wants to come home from vacation to a mess?

We're having one this weekend too but it's coming to us. My husband's twin brother (I didn't know we were both married to twins) will be in town from Denver with his wife and little people. Woo Hoo!

Rach@In His Hands said...

Mmmmwahhh to you Asher!!

Love that Oreo game...maybe I'll get me some Oreos, practice all day, and then challenge Josh. :-)

Kimberly Vanderhorst said...

I wish my signature was that cool. Seriously.

Have a fab time!

Kim said...

Ok, I really miss cable for Jon and Kate...but I just saw that I can watch them on HULU!! Hoorah!

Um, I am going to buy some Oreos today on the pretense that we will play that game, but really I might eat them all before Jeremy even gets home to play with me. heehee!

Have a fun fun trip and be safe. Oh, and reading these fun posts makes me SO stinking excited for Blogher and to smoosh your face!!!

I just caught that great kiss he was blowing - and put it right on my cheek as what is better then kisses from little ones --have fun on your trip, OK FINE,I won't rob you.

So cute. I'm going on a vaykay too! Only farther south. I leave tomorrow, but not on a jet plane...clearly I have issues...stress perhaps? :-)

Jackie said...

Word Twist! Yes! So addicting, and you can't stop from finding words in everything. So crazy.

That Oreo game is quite possible the most hilarious thing I've seen all week. Hmmmm...I just might have to challenge my siblings to a round of this when I go home next week for a visit...

Have an awesome time, Heather!

Just laughing my head off here. It's all good. Have a wonderful vacation, even if you are already gone. . .

I don't follow John and Kate plus 8 but the entire situation makes me sad. I sure hope things aren't as bad as TV makes it look.

I love Miles signature and doesn't Asher just look PRECIOUS?!?! Aww...heart-meltingly good.

Have a great time, come home safe and sound, and love ya tons and tons!

I almost missed this post.

And, yes. He has a future in illustration. But if I were you, I'd train him to be a doctor. No money in illustration—hmp.
